Nitrous oxide, or laughing gas, is a safe and effective treatment that is commonly used by patients who experience dental anxiety and those who are undergoing lengthy or invasive procedures. A comfortable mask is placed over the nose, and a faintly sweet-smelling gas is administered throughout the treatment to induce a calm and relaxed state. Once the mask is removed, the effects of nitrous oxide disappear within a couple of minutes of breathing normal air.

Conditions that are considered dental emergencies:
Dental pain that cannot be managed using over-the-counter medications
Avulsed tooth (tooth knocked out, usually due to trauma, sports, or auto accidents)
Swelling of gums, inside of the mouth, or the face
Bleeding of teeth or gums that cannot be stopped with firm holding of pressure for at least 10 minutes
If you need urgent medical attention that supersedes your dental needs, please call 911 or report to the ER for care and follow up with Dr. Holt for dental needs after you have been cleared.
